Nichijou Episode 0: What is this I don’t even…

This was supposed to be a filler post on how I have a writer’s block right now, but since I just watched Nichijou Episode 0, I think I’ll share my thoughts on the preview(?).

As for content, there were quite a bit of funny scenes here and there, but I can’t help but feel sleepy at times while I was watching it. I mean, only Kyoto Animation has the power to turn an event (waiting for a train, making someone take their cold medicine or encouraging someone who failed a test) that can be shown in two minutes in normal slice-of-life anime into three seven minute sketches. This can be good or bad depending on the viewer and the situation. For me, it was… pretty boring. I really hope that it can manage to be a little more interesting when the series airs for real.

Art is of the typical moeblob style that KyoAni became famous for. I’m not going to say any more about this. The backgrounds are quite pleasing to look at with that “realistic” feel to them, but I think that the backgrounds for this anime are made with consideration to the style of the original manga.

I’ll give this series a try and hope for the best when it finally hits TV.

Well, that’s all I can say for now. I still have my writer’s block so I don’t think that I’ll be able to post anything coherent for the time being (having ten exams for the past week will do that to you, and four more this week will put me in an unmentionable state). Please bear with me for a while.

  1. Eh, it’s only a preview episode. No need to hope for anything, just be patient and wait for whatever happens to happen.

    • I guess so. Well, it’s KyoAni after all. I guess that they’re going to make this one popular, too.

And is it just me, or does KyoAni prefer to make anime with sets of girls doing random stuff recently(Lucky star, K-On!, Nichijou)?

what happened to my Little Busters! adaptation?

      • You’re better off enjoying their classics such as Full Metal Panic, Inuyasha, Haruhi Suzumiya etc. Be grateful that they produced the Triforce of Tears. As for Little Busters, 1st time I ever heard of it. Then again, I’m not much of a hardcore network follower.

      • I do enjoy most KyoAni shows. I loved Lucky Star and K-On.

At first, as was quited bored by K-On, but it turned out to be quite good.

A good dose of randomness and moe is very nice (I’m a part of the Moe Coalition, after all). And I do hope that Nichijou can provide us with that.

      • Little Busters! is another one of Jun Maeda’s works. Like Clannad, Air, and Kanon, Little Busters is another one of Key’s visual novels.

Either that or the rumored Yuru Yuri anime adaptation.

  3. It’s not rumored, my friend. It has already been green-lit.
    Here.

    • If there’s one thing Kanamemo taught me is that you CAN do yuri comedy right without making the girls look like joke characters. CURSE YOU MARIA+HOLIC AND YOUR FANBASE! One of Shaft’s greatest, yet forgivable mistakes. Also the fact that the makers of Minami-Ke will be responsible for its production brings tears of joy to my eyes.

      • I won’t consider MariaXHolic to be yuri, though.

  4. afkeroge :
I won’t consider MariaXHolic to be yuri, though.

Because it isn’t. It’s a disgrace to yuri nationwide. It’s everything the yuri nation stands against. We appall such disgusting content and banish it to deepest parts of the netherworld…or in a hardcore male otaku’s basement where it belongs and will never see the light of day.

    • It’s like Kampfer, only worse.

      • True. Kampfer isn’t as insulting. At least we were given the gift that is Kaede Sakura from Kampfer. What did we get from Maria+Holic? An undeserving sequel. Just as the goddess of yuri is kind to us, the evils of corporate Japan are just as cruel.

You know, it’s funny that even though this blog is all about the preview episode of Nichijou, we’re barely talking about it. I guess it’s because we’ve already said all that was needed.

      • Nah, it’s okay. Nichijou doesn’t really have much to be talked about. It’s more of something to be enjoyed by oneself than discussed like crazy. This is not Madoka. Haha!

Yes, I Wiki’d it after you told me about it. I can see why you’re eager for an adaptation. It looks like a harem to me. I could be wrong.

    • What’s good with Key’s works is that even though they make bishoujo games, they don’t even try to touch upon harem endings. And the stories are always so typical, yet very moving and emotional.

This is usually my type of thing, but I don’t know. Nichijou doesn’t quite excite me like other slice-of-life. I’ll try to check this out though.

  6. I saw both episodes 0 and 1 today and I must say that it reminds me of Lucky Star and Hyakko, which is a good thing since I like both shows. This show’s right up my alley since it doesn’t require a plot or common sense to rock. Oh yes, looks like we’ve got a winner here.

    • I also watched episode 1 yesterday, and by God, it was B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L! I take back all my criticisms.

      • Highlight characters aside from the main trio:
        -Goat Man.
        -Robot
-Anti Goat Man, the girl with the weapons fetish, at least I think that’s part of her character.
        -The cat.

  7. Episode 2:
Top sketch this week: Notebook of doom.
    Other sketches include:
    -The incantation of resurrection.
    -Stalker of doom.
    -Nano’s modifications
-Cleaning request: (Can someone explain to me why this one
s funny, despite not being able to understand the joke?
    -Goat Man and Gun Maniac

True, it does have an Azumanga vibe to it, except more insane and epic. I see it as a combination of Azumanga and Pani Poni Dash.

P.S.: Pay very close attention to the music being played.

    • I still have to watch the second episode. I’m a bit behind on anime nowadays because of translations and stuff.

      • It’s alright. Stay tuned next week for more Nichijou insanity.
