Let’s support Mr. Dan Kanemitsu and the Mangaka’s Freedom of Speech!

As July approaches, most anime fans, in Japan and all over the world are beginning to worry about the future of anime and manga. Bill 156 also known as Tokyo’s Harmful Books Regulation Law (mistaken for the popular but incorrect Tokyo Anime and Manga Ban) was signed into law last year by the now very infamous Governor Shintaro Ishihara. However, unknown to many, including myself until recently, there are several circumstances revolving around the said bill than what gets to the computer screens of many. One of which, is the involvement of several other people in the creation and eventual passing of the bill. Governor Ishihara is no more than just a pawn in the bigger picture of several dirty political schemes that have been around since the “Nonexistent Youths Bill”.

Recently, Mr. Dan Kanemitsu, along with other mangaka of note, released a doujin manga regarding the details of the said bill and the events and issues surrounding it. It’s selling quite well in Japan and is also translated into English for our convenience, save the last few pages. I really recommend that you read this work as it is very informative while still being very funny with moe-fied versions of the mangakas and the the people involved with the bill, as well as parodies of other genres.

Now, I quote from Mr. Kanemitsu’s Blog:

“So, I call upon many English speakers of the my blog, try to make your voice heard in any way that you can, to try to break the perpetuation of the notion that Japan is a free for all when it comes to child pornography and erotic subjects in anime and manga and video games. But make sure to be polite!”

To the readers of this blog: please help in spreading the truth about Bill 156 by voicing out your own opinions in your own blog or spreading it in imageboards and anime forums. Even a little misconception corrected can lead to the betterment of the fate of anime and manga in Japan as well as the whole world.

Valence has already voiced his opinions regarding the matter and I hope more people will do the same.

Here are some suggested readings about the bill , its scope, the people concerned and other useful information:

There’s also an entry from Mr. Kanemitsu in ANN:

Thanks for the links. I think I read some of Dan Kanemitsu posts on this subject back when the bill was first signed. I’ve kind of forgotten about the issue since then. Haha. Well, time to read that doujin.

  1. If I had the manpower and cash to purchase the doujin, I would have. For now, all I can do is hope for the best.
